Automatic Transmission Fluid Exchange
Under normal driving conditions, heat and oxidation causes deterioration of the fluid, while abrasives and contaminants in your transmission increase. Over time, your transmission becomes more vulnerable to costly breakdown, and loses its peak operating performance qualities. Under extraordinary driving conditions, the deterioration accelerates. Some of these conditions can include:
- Towing or operating under heavy loads
- Hot climates
- Stop-and-go city driving
- Winter or hard driving
- AWD or 4WD usage
- Hills or mountainous terrain
What about my car’s warranty?
Changing the fluid in your transmission at regular intervals is recommended by your vehicle manufacturer, and is required as part of your extended warranty obligations (see your owner’s manual for warranty details). It’s essential to perform regular maintenance to your vehicle that meets or exceeds the manufacturer’s recommendations.
Recommended service intervals: please check your owner’s manual
Fuel Filter Service
Fuel filters (gas or diesel) are paramount in helping to protect fuel system components from contaminants such as dirt, rust, etc., that may be in the fuel. These contaminants can damage your fuel system, fuel-injection system, or carburetors, causing engine malfunction and deterioration. Dirt, scale, rust, and water are the major impurities found in fuel. These impurities can originate from old service station gas tanks which have been below ground and rusting out for years. Additionally, all fuel that enters the engine must pass through the fuel filter, so it’s a good idea to replace the fuel filter at recommended service intervals* (see below).
In diesel fuel filters, fine particles, water must be removed from diesel fuel before it travels through the fuel injection system. The fuel from the fuel tank is routed through the filter which filters out the contaminates. If the filter is a fuel/water separator, the fine particles remain trapped in the filter media while the water droplets come together and fall to the bottom of the filter. Some filters are equipped with a drain at the bottom portion of the filter to drain the water from the filter.
Benefit to You:
- Keeps contaminants from entering into your fuel system
- Helps maintain engine performance
- Helps provide better gas mileage
*Recommended Service Interval: 15,000 to 30,000 miles
